SUMMARY OF NASHVILLE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
Our first order of business was to elect a president for the 2008 year. Dan Morse from District 16 which is most of Texas and all of Mexico was elected president. Dan has been a board member since 1993.
I will present an overview of the matters passed by the Board in this report and will explain in detail over the next few months the issues that are more specific to our District.
First, the ACBL Code of Disciplinary Regulations has been amended. A “member in good standing” has been defined to include when the member’s dues are current and generally not subject to a discipline. Also, the Code has included a policy statement that with some exceptions, “units, districts, and ACBL have no jurisdiction over behavior at club sponsored games.” Somewhat related to good standing, the Board authorized Management to establish procedures and guidelines to suspend or rescind a club game sanction or a club director accreditation for cause such as but not limited to: egregious conduct detrimental to ACBL by the club manager or club director. Management’s recommendations will be reviewed by the Bridge Committee at our meeting in San Francisco in November.
Next the Board authorized a $50,000 dollar loan upon the creation of
the North American Contract Bridge Hall of Fame to be disbursed at the
request of the foundation.
There was substantial discussion about ACBL Special Club Games and also a first reading of proposed changes to the Masterpoint Formulas. I will report on these two item in detail next month.
One final item that has drawn a lot of attention is that the Board requested Management as soon as possible to develop a plan for banning all non-medical electronic devices from the rooms, hallways contiguous to and bathrooms on the floors in which any events are being played at NABCs. This plan will be presented prior to the Fall NABC in San Francisco.
IT IS A DIFFERENT VIEW FROM DUMMY
Sharon Fairchild, ACBL President sent me a thank you note, thanking the
District for her warm welcome to our tournament. She even carried our
new ALACBU President, Bill Schreiber to a 3rd place finish in an open
pairs event.
In passing through the parking lot at the Westin I saw two license
plates, which caught my eye. The first was “LHO RHO”, the second was
“ILV2BD7N”. If anyone has a good bridge license plate, let me
know and you could find it in print right here.
